New KIOSK welcomes 2008

During the spring of 2008, the DEC operations department in
Boonville constructed the new kiosk for the Bald (Rondaxe)
Mt. trailhead to replace the small trail register that was often bypassed by
hikers. The new kiosk was taken apart and reassembled adjacent to the expanded
parking lot at the
The FoBM committee continues to
work with our local Forest Ranger Chad Richardson on maintenance of the
historic fire tower. The cab recently was re-painted to cover up a bit of
graffiti and another workday is scheduled for July 10, 2008 to re-stain the
platforms and steps, re-seal the map table, and clear away a charred tree on
the summit. Hundreds of school children arrived this spring for field trips to
the fire tower; over 600 people signed the register in April (with snow still
