The Bald Mountain Fire Tower, known also as Rondaxe Fire Tower, is located in the West Central Adirondacks near Old Forge, NY. The first tower, a wooden structure, was erected on the summit in 1912, and then replaced with the present steel structure in 1917. It is one of the most popular fire tower summits in the Adirondacks. The tower was manned by rangers seasonally until 1990, then closed and abandoned. | |
The Bald Mountain Fire Tower was restored from 2002-2005 by volunteers working in conjunction with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Click HERE for the restoration story and links to more history. |
